“What equipment does the Duct Doctor use?”

We run a patented truck-mounted vacuum that pulls roughly 10,000 cubic feet per minute of suction, paired with 150 to 200 psi compressed-air tools on hollow poles. That combination is 5 to 20 times more powerful than the rotary-brush and shop-vac setups most companies use, which is what lets us actually remove debris instead of just stirring it up.

"How can duct cleaning be done correctly?"

The only method that works is source removal. We put the system under strong negative pressure and agitate the full length of every supply and return duct so the debris is pulled back to the truck's filtered collection unit, not blown around your home. If a company is not using true source removal, they are moving dust, not removing it.

"How often should air duct cleaning be done?"

For most homes, every three to five years is the right interval. You will want it sooner if you have pets, allergy or asthma sufferers in the house, recent renovation or construction, or if anyone smokes indoors.

There is NO NEED for a “duct maintenance contract” done annually. Such offers are scams.

“How long does duct cleaning take?”

A typical residential job runs two to four hours depending on the size of the home, how many vents you have, and the condition of the system. We do not rush it, because a proper source-removal cleaning takes time.

“How much does duct cleaning cost?”

All of our services include cleaning the entire system (both supply and return sides), all trunks, all registers, and furnaces. There is no additional charge per room added upon arrival. We consider that to be "bait and switch" pricing that others in our industry use. Our quote is always our exact price. A single system will cost around $500, and that cost is generally recouped by energy savings between services. Beware of “Blow-and-Go” companies that offer so-called “duct cleaning” at a very low cost or spend 90 minutes or less in your home. These offers will not be effective, and they can do harm in certain circumstances!

“How frequently should dryer vents be cleaned?”

Dryers are a bit of a responsibility as they are frequently neglected but can pose both an asphyxiation risk and a fire hazard. Duct Doctor will provide you with an energy-efficient and, most importantly, completely SAFE appliance following service. In general, your dryer and dryer vent should be cleaned and inspected annually, especially when dealing with a gas appliance.

“What are the benefits of air duct cleaning?”

Duct cleaning has many benefits for your utilities and your health, but ONLY when done properly by a company that has the correct equipment, talent, and care to make sure the job is done right.

Remove dust and allergens in your home

HVAC ducts frequently contain harmful contaminants and micro-organisms, such as human and pet dander, bacteria, pollen, mildew, mold spores, construction dust, and foreign objects. Individuals who suffer from allergies, asthma, and other respiratory problems are particularly sensitive to these airborne particles. The Duct Doctor pulls all debris directly outside to our truck.

Improve your system’s efficiency

Ductwork and registers that have a buildup of dust and grime can restrict the flow of air from the furnace and air conditioner. Just an eighth of an inch of debris on your blower motor can reduce airflow by 15% in your home! This means your system will have to work harder to heat or cool your home, resulting in decreased efficiency and increased energy costs. Don’t pay for a 96% efficient furnace that is running at 78% due to turbulent airflow in ducts!

Make your home smell clean and fresh

Pets, household cleaning agents, mold, tobacco use, and food preparation all contribute to stale smells in the air ducts. Every time the furnace or air conditioner is running, these odors will repeatedly flow through the house. An accumulation of dust and dirt leads to a musty scent coming from the ductwork. A detailed cleaning of the air ducts removes all odor-trapping particles, resulting in a fresher-smelling home. If necessary, we have more advanced odor control treatments available as well.

“When is air duct cleaning necessary?”

The contents of your ductwork have direct effects on the “air envelope” of your home, and the human body also reacts to duct debris, which is a potent irritant. Look for the following list of signs and events that indicate you could benefit from having your ducts cleaned:

  • Ducts, even in an otherwise clean home, that haven’t been cleaned in more than three years

  • A new HVAC unit has been installed

  • Renovations or remodeling were recently done

  • Remediation of any level of mold anywhere in the home or office was performed recently

  • Unusually frequent dusting is needed to keep surfaces and blinds clean

  • A tobacco smoker has lived in a home—we can get rid of tobacco odors!

  • An occupant is suffering from a respiratory disorder (e.g. asthma, emphysema, or COPD) — these symptoms can be the result of, or exacerbated by, debris in the ductwork, especially in children and the elderly

  • Moving into a new home or office

  • An infant has moved into the home

  • Air that smells musty, stale, or which has other unpleasant odors

  • The surface of vents, or the surface visible just inside vents, is dirty or develops small “dust bunnies,” which is a sure sign of heavy contamination inside the ductwork

“Is duct sanitation safe?”

Everything Duct Doctor does at your home or office is intended to improve your health and utility bills. We know that people inhabit the places we treat and only utilize sanitizers that are completely safe. No wiping of surfaces is required, and we use sanitizer in a food-safe way. We are trusted to clean and sanitize restaurants and doctor’s offices because those clients know Duct Doctor can do it effectively and safely. We truly are Good Medicine for the Air You Breathe!

“What is the debris in my ducts made of?”

The debris we find in ducts varies greatly, from lint and common house dust to microbial contaminants, soot, and construction waste. Also, much of what we remove can be labeled “human and pet dander.” Normal, healthy humans and pets are constantly shedding skin cells, and skin is also populated with natural fungal organisms, among other things. These materials build up and develop in your ducts over time. It’s not a pretty thought, but it is nice to know that Duct Doctor can remove all of these unwanted contaminants from your home and office.

“Why is duct cleaning necessary?”

HVAC duct cleaning by Duct Doctor removes the dirt, mold, bugs, mites, and other gross stuff that lives in your duct system. Duct cleaning helps improve your health by removing these contaminants from the source and recirculated air, leaving your home cleaner and healthier—and your family breathing easier.

“Will duct cleaning make my home dirty on the day of service?”

The Duct Doctor is as serious about your home’s overall cleanliness as it is about indoor air quality! Most “duct cleaners” use shop vacs or portable vacuums to clean. Our technicians not only work cleaner around your property than so-called “duct cleaners,” but improper duct cleaning can raise the level of irritants and toxins in the air envelope of your home. Even through a HEPA filter, the preponderance of sub-micron-sized debris makes its way out of the vacuum’s exhaust! This is why the Duct Doctor pulls all the debris DIRECTLY OUTSIDE. It is filtered in our truck, and exhausted outdoors. Unqualified duct cleaners, ill-equipped with portable tools, can actually leave your home 10 to 15 times less clean for several days! Duct Doctor does the job properly, and your home is far cleaner when we leave than when we arrive!
