The truck provides powerful vacuum collection while technicians use compressed-air tools, specialized agitation equipment, HEPA-filtered equipment where appropriate, and other tools selected for the particular duct system being cleaned.

What does negative pressure do during duct cleaning?

It must be maintained while cleaning is underway. NADCA's 2025 ACR standard calls for continuous negative pressure in the portion being cleaned and verification at representative locations. It also addresses the airflow needed to carry debris toward collection.

Why do access and duct layout matter?
Technicians need access that lets them reach the material and move it toward collection. NADCA recommends using existing openings where possible; additional service openings may be necessary to reach duct interiors properly.
A duct system can include larger main ducts, smaller branches, turns, and separate supply and return pathways. The cleaning approach must account for those paths. The location of the vacuum connection and the reach of the cleaning tools both affect how the work can be performed.
Material and condition matter, too. Tools and methods must suit the duct surfaces without damaging sound ductwork or internal lining. Access limitations or damaged sections should be explained as part of the job.
